success! flavored olive oils

I’m gonna have the shiniest coat in the tri-state area after all this the olive oil sampling.

A month ago I put together four olive oils with dried flavory bits, and here’s what I ended up with!

Left to right, here are the results:

Lemon peel and black peppercorns. This is going to sound worse than it is, but it reminded me of dish soap. I’ll use this one for cooking, but it’s not the best for dipping bread into.

Basil. I didn’t have super high hopes for it, honestly, but it’s so delicious. If you like basil, try it for yourself. The flavor comes through in a delicate yet powerful way—like titanium lace, if that helps (probably doesn’t).

Rosemary. Yeah, this was a gimme. I don’t have to tell you it’s awesome.

Dundicut peppers. This is what I wanted. Not so hot that you have to dare each other to try it, but I wouldn’t do a shot of it either. Just pour it on everything and live well. Except pancakes, maybe—unless they’re scallion pancakes, then dunk that shit. (And if you look carefully at the photo, this one’s obviously harboring the ghost of Pac-Man.)
