Here’s another list, this time from PETA. It’s a pretty comprehensive one, including those major corporate brands I try to stay away from because of things like high-fructose corn syrup and preservatives. But to be honest, sometimes I’m feelin’ snacky and the only thing open is the regular grocery store. It’s good to know I can pick up some Ritz crackers, Tofutti cream cheese, and olives and make myself a lovely treat. (I think I have to run to the store now.) And at some big family dinner, I can have at the Pillsbury Crescent rolls and show everyone how normal I am.
Again, companies tweak their recipes from time to time, so checking the labels is always a good idea. When trans-fats became the new Osama, some veg oils were replaced by animal ones. Healthier? Not really, but they got to say “Zero trans-fat!” and that’s what counts to most folk.
